When you hear the word shame, what comes up for you? I think about how I was taught that shame is a consequence of sin and in order to get rid of it you need to repent.

While I understood that theology, it didn't fit the narrative of my lived experience. There are circumstances that I found myself ashamed of, like being diagnosed with depression, that is not a result of sin. After much prayer and devotion, I realized that shame is simply an emotion, while it may be unpleasant one, it does not always derive from sin and after acknowledgement can be replaced with God's love.

For many of us, shame becomes the lens through which we view ourselves. Thoughts like “I’m not good enough”, “I’m not pretty enough”, “I’m just not enough” cloud our self-image and ultimately effect our actions.

If you are going to overcome the lie of shame in your life, you have to allow yourself to receive the love that God gives you.

Through meditation, yoga asana (we will focus on Sun Salutations), and experts from "Undoing Shame" devotion written by Hillary L McBride (@hillaryliannamcbride), we will silence the voice of shame in order to encounter who we really are to God, which is loved!
